School Shootings

This is what I consider to be the most enraging experience I have had in the last few years. The stupidity of people is just unbelievable in this. It makes very, very little sense. Here is the setting... I attend Tift County High School (TCHS) in Tifton, Georgia. It is a school of about 1600, not really big. All of this takes place after the Columbine High School shooting in Colorado. This is presented on a day by day basis.

Wednesday - This is the first day after the shooting. Teachers are still looking for the latest information on the internet, and many classes are spent just talking about the shootings, having prolonged discussions that take up the entire class period. Everyone agrees it was tragic, but no one really saw the way that the administration was going to handle the situation. A single rumor is let loose that someone has posted a message on Tifton Online, the local bulletin board for the Tift Country area, threatening harm to the school. I think the exact rumor went something like, "Yeah, we saw a message. It said something like, 'If you think what happened in Colorado was bad, wait till you see what we do here.'" And that was all it took. The administration started selecting specific students on the basis of color of dress, hair style, and social standing, then questioning them as to their preferences, family, and so on. Apparently, words from KMFDM were found on one of the boy's sites out in Colorado, so anyone with a KMFDM shirt on also got hauled in.
